Liberty Theater and Astoria-Warrenton Chamber of Commerce are presenting this program jointly, featuring the music that moved the nation’s spirit. With a big band orchestra, singers and dancers, In The Mood takes a look at the life and time of America’s greatest generation. With music and dance performed to up-tempo big band rhythms and mellow intimate ballads, a mood was set to inspire a future filled with hope, promise and prosperity.

Artistic Director Keith Clark hosts a multi-media introduction to the cultural life of early 20th Century Vienna, the creative hothouse of Freud, Mahler, Gustav Klimt, Arnold Schoenberg and this summer’s featured opers: alban Berg’s Wozzeck. Plus a rare performance of Arnold Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire, a revolutionary work for singing actress and chamber ensemble, filled with Freudian dreams and nightmares. Conceived as a Berlin cabaret act,Pierrot Lunaire tells of the sad clown Pierrot and his love for Columbine, in a unique “Song-Speech” vocal style later used by Schoenberg’s stufdent Ablan Berg in his opers Wozzeck. Alisha Hamel from the Historical Outreach Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit, will present “Oregon's Role During WWII.” This will include Tillamook's special role with the mission of searching for Japanese submarines along the Oregon coastline. Ms. Hamel will speak generally about the causes of WWII and the reason the United States became involved and will then transition into where Oregon troops were sent to fight and what happened in Oregon during the war. The free presentation will include a touchable display of actual WWII items and interaction with the audience. The display includes items such as a WWII helmet, various jackets and coats, part of a captured German teletype machine, a German gas mask, and medals that were awarded to the Soldier that the St. Helens' Armory was named after along with many other items.
Your Heart's Desire: A Celebration of Chocolate, Wine and Art - This benefit for the Community Arts Project begins on Friday with a benefit art sale, open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with free admission and chocolate cookies. The main Chocolate and Wine Event, from 6 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, features complimentary appetizers, chocolate desserts, beer, wine and cider, plus a student art show, silent auction and raffle. One of the highlights of the PC social season. Tickets to the Saturday event are $25 in advance, $30 at the door, for details call 503-392-4581.
